No Comments from the Peanut Gallery, Please

I arrived home from work tonight to find five kids running wild around the house. I was pretty sure only three were mine, and sure enough, we were host to a neighborhood playdate. Addie was hungry, so I busily got to work making dinner while princess dress-clad girls twirled around the kitchen. In usual playdate fashion, we started getting the questions, "Can J and K stay for dinner?", "Yes, can I stay for dinner? I'll go ask my mom!"  Instead of sticking with the standard, "Not tonight, we don't have enough for everybody" or "We'll have to do that another time when we can plan ahead", J.C. went with, "Not tonight... it really isn't a very exciting dinner anyway."

Thanks for the vote of confidence, hun. Next Friday night after a long week at work, I'm thinking I'll just kick back with a Mike-a-rita, catch up on a little TV, and let him whip up the exciting meal.

No, It's Not THAT.

Oh how I wish I had had a camera in my hand this morning, so I could share with all of you the panic-stricken look on J.C.'s face when he asked me this morning about the "Stay Tuned..." post. (He even left his first ever comment on that post!) With fear in his eyes and apprehension in his voice, he nervously said, "So what is this all about? It sounds like something you would post before announcing that you're pregnant." As fun as it might have been to just string him along and tell him he would find out what that post was about when everyone else does, I was a little worried he might move out today while I was at work if I didn't reassure him that I was definitely NOT pregnant. So, dear husband, this post is for you. I am not, nor do I have any plans to become, pregnant.

As a side note though, I'm not sure whether to be concerned or amused that he thought I would announce something like that on the blog before telling him personally! I'll have to ponder that one some more later.

So, you now have one hint. I am not pregnant. That's your only hint. Check back soon!

Today is our tenth wedding anniversary. When I say that, it sounds like such an amazingly long time, but it doesn't really feel that long... probably because it still feels just right. I love J.C. just as I did 10 years ago, but now I have the privilege of loving him as the father of my children too which makes me love him even more.

I thought my friend Denise's list that she made on her 14th anniversary was so fun, so I'm stealing her idea for my post today. Here is my list of 10 things about J.C. and our marriage in honor of our 10 years.

1. He is a wonderful father. He is the kind of hands-on dad who takes time off work to have lunch with his daughter in the school cafeteria, attends the preschool ice cream socials, helps with homework, changes diapers, and makes up silly songs in the car.

2. He is creative - whether it is woodworking or photography, he has a great creative mind.

3. He doesn't think he is too old to wear skater shoes with skulls on them even though I tease him mercilessly.

4. We have three beautiful, wonderful daughters.

5. He is a neat, tidy, orderly person, but he puts up with my mess (at least most of the time).

6. We met on my second day of work in the company cafeteria, and 13 years later, we are both still working there.

7. He can fix almost anything.

8. He and I are both computer programmers, so it is nice to come home and talk about your frustrations or successes at the end of the day with someone who truly understands them.

9. He has the most fascinating way of folding T-shirts. I crack up watching him, but they come out so neatly folded, and I've never been able to master his technique.

10. We got married at Fearrington Village which was the most perfect, romantic, wonderful location for a wedding for us.

It has been 10 great years, and I hope we have many, many more ahead of us.
