Outside my window... the weather couldn't be better. The kids are off school today, and they have spent the entire day playing on the zipline, running around with neighbors, riding scooters, and jumping rope. I love days like today!
I am thinking... that it has been a very long time since I've written one of these posts. I'm hoping to get back in the habit. I haven't written one in almost two months.
I am thankful for... the weather today. These nice days scattered through winter help me get through the gloomy winter blues.
From the kitchen... leftover funeral food. JC's uncle passed away last week, and I have been eating cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, ham biscuits, and lemon tarts every day since... tasty lunches!
I am creating... this blog post, after a very long hiatus.
I am going... to Elise's school talent show this week. I'm interested to see how the talent changes from elementary school talent shows to middle school. I'm crossing fingers for a little more talent than act after act of lip synching Taylor Swift songs.
I am reading... Ladies' Night by Mary Kay Andrews. I'm enjoying it so far, just like all MK Andrews books. Since my last SWD post, I've read: Orange is the New Black (really interesting...want to watch the series now), Five Days in November by Clint Hill (excellent, highly recommend it), Transforming the Difficult Child: The Nurtured Heart Approach by Howard Glassner (helped a lot with Addison), Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews (always love hers), Allegiant by Veronica Roth (definitely not as good as the first two in the series), Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris (first story was great, rest were a big waste of my time), Tim Gunn's Fashion Bible: The Fascinating History of Everything in Your Closet by Tim Gunn (good book for Tim Gunn fans), Columbine by Dave Cullen (chilling, horrifying, fascinating, excellent book), and The Watsons Go to Birmingham -- 1963 (great historical fiction for about 4th-7th grade readers). I should definitely write this post more regularly!
I am hoping... that J.C.'s dad is doing OK after his brother's death.
I am hearing... the zip line swooshing, kids coming in and out of the house, music playing from a speaker hooked up to an iPod, and all the great sounds of children playing on a pretty day.
Around the house... Girl Scout cookies. Ev.er.y.where.
One of my favorite things... not Girl Scout cookies.
A few plans for the rest of the week... count Girl Scout cookies, deliver Girl Scout cookies, sell Girl Scout cookies, pick up Girl Scout cookies from the warehouse, sort Girl Scout cookies, curse Girl Scout cookies, ship Girl Scout cookies, sit at Girl Scout cookie booths, deposit money for Girl Scout cookies, and lose sleep over Girl Scout cookies.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing... Elise and her science fair project (no, not about Girl Scout cookies. She tested what type of pan results in the best baked cookies. The conclusion was cast iron, in case you are interested.)
