For Today...
Outside my window... a little overcast, but overall a nice day.
I am thinking... that I love the logic used in these scenarios today. Flawed as it may be, you can just almost hear the gears in their heads grinding away to come up with these justifications...
<screaming oveheard from another room followed by:>
Nina: "MOM!!! Elise licked me and hit me with her swimsuit, and all I did was punch her in the back. She did two things, and I only did one!"
<and then this interaction a few hours later...>
Elise: "OWWW!!! Nina, you kicked me in the shin!!!"
Nina: "Because you pushed me."
Elise: "I only pushed you because you kicked me in the shin!"
Nina: "No, you pushed me first."
Elise: "Well.... uh.... I didn't think pushing would hurt! You kicked me in the shin, and that HURT!!!"
I am thankful for... living in a neighborhood with a nice pool where we can spend our days relaxing and playing in the water. I'm also thankful that for the past three years, we have had a nice college-aged neighbor who can teach the girls private swim lessons all summer.
From the kitchen... Asian pomegranate glazed salmon, brown rice, broccoli, and cantaloupe.
I am wearing... a purple tee, denim shorts, and flip flops.
I am creating... hopefully the right cocktail of meds to make sure my neck doesn't go into spasm. It feels like it is headed that way.
I am going... to lie down soon. I need to minimize neck movement.
I am reading... The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan.
I am hoping... that Nina is not actually sick after throwing up today at the pool. I'm going to cross my fingers that maybe she just swallowed some pool water and that she doesn't have a stomach bug. The thought of her not being able to go to school tomorrow for her first day of kindergarten just kills me!
I am hearing... Hanna Montana, the usual around here lately.
Around the house... backpacks bursting at the seams with new pencils, folders, crayons, and glue sticks, first day of school clothes picked out, fresh haircuts, and lunchboxes waiting to be packed! We are ready!
One of my favorite things... watching Addie "jump". This has got to be one of my all-time favorite childhood developmental milestones... when toddlers bend their knees and skyrocket up to standing, not getting any air in the process but so confident that they are jumping. Addie is so proud of her "jumps"!
A few plans for the rest of the week.... first day of school!!! Otherwise, just the usual... tumbling, Addie's 18 month check-up, swim lessons, and I'm hoping to get some service done on my car.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing... Just for fun... JC happened to notice that my car was hitting 77,777 miles, so he snapped a picture with his cell phone camera! Ha!

The odometer turning over to interesting digits just isn't the same excitement as when they were *not* digital and actually 'turned' over. Sigh. 9999.5, 9999.6, 9999.7, 9999.8, 9999.9, 10000.0 WOW! Now, it's just 9999, blink, 10000.
Kids don't know what they're missing.
